Everything You Need to Know About CBN!

CBD and THC are well known, but what about CBN? Some might think it’s a typo, but that’s far from the case. CBN—not CBD—is very real. It’s part of the family of cannabinoids derived from the hemp plant, just like THC and CBD. Here’s an interesting fact: there are over a hundred different cannabinoids. THC, CBD, CBN, and CBG are simply the best known.

CBN is also known as cannabinol. It differs from its cannabinoid cousins in the specific effects it is said to produce, which we will explore in this article. There are clear differences between CBN, CBD, and THC. All the details are covered in this article—enjoy reading it!

What is CBN?

CBN refers to cannabinol, one of the many cannabinoids found in the well-known hemp plant. It is a substance that occurs naturally in the hemp plant and is subsequently isolated and extracted for therapeutic purposes.

The cannabinoids in the hemp plant are known to have a wide range of health benefits. THC, on the other hand, is considered a narcotic and is therefore an illegal substance. It produces psychotropic effects and has a high potential for addiction; it is primarily consumed to induce a state of euphoria. CBD, however, is completely different from THC in terms of its effects. It is not addictive at all and is believed to help relieve a wide range of conditions, such as inflammation, stress, depression, and migraines.

But let’s get back to CBN. What makes CBN unique is that it interacts with our endocannabinoid system without affecting how our brain functions. CBN, of course, has its own distinct effects and therapeutic benefits for consumers who are interested in it. More details to follow.

The Unique Health Benefits of CBN

CBN and CBD have one thing in common: they interact with our body's endocannabinoid system—and thus with a network of receptors located throughout our body.

There are far fewer studies on the therapeutic effects of CBN than there are on CBD, which means there isn’t yet a solid scientific foundation on the subject. Despite this, experts have still managed to identify several potential benefits associated with CBN consumption. For example, it has been noted that CBN stimulates appetite. This would make it an effective natural solution for combating anorexia. It is also valued for its anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic, and vasodilatory properties, which may help relieve intraocular pressure and glaucoma.

Its primary benefit, however, remains its impact on sleep quality. Many consumers agree that cannabinol is the “sleep cannabinoid.” By this, they mean that consuming CBN may improve sleep quality, extend the deep sleep phase, and help overcome insomnia and sleep disorders in general. High Society has developed an oil specifically from cannabinol: 2% CBN Oil. This oil contains a 2% concentration of CBN. This concentration is high enough to significantly improve the quality of your sleep and overcome any insomnia, yet low enough that there is no need to worry about sedative effects. Our CBD shop offers these products for sale.

What are the differences between CBD, THC, and CBN?

It is true that CBD, THC, and CBN have one important thing in common: they all come from the hemp plant, so they are all cannabinoids. However, the fact that they belong to the same family does not necessarily mean that they have the same health benefits. Quite the contrary.

THC needs no introduction. CBD was recently legalized in France, but THC remains an illegal substance. THC has numerous psychoactive effects that are harmful to health, yet it remains a particularly sought-after substance precisely because of those effects. CBD, on the other hand, poses no risk of addiction and even fewer undesirable side effects on health. This is a common feature shared by both CBD and CBN. Cannabidiol and cannabinol are therefore both perfectly safe for health. The differencesbetween them boil down to the range of health benefits they may offer consumers.

It’s worth noting, however, that it remains difficult to truly compare CBD and CBN. Indeed, CBD is currently the subject of great interest and, as a result, is the focus of numerous scientific studies. The same cannot be said for CBN. CBN is a cannabinoid that was discovered much more recently. For now, we only have a few insights into its health benefits—enough to market it safely, but not enough to be certain that it isn’t capable of providing even more therapeutic effects.

A sedative effect?

One of the few criticisms often leveled at CBN is that it has a sedative effect. By “sedative,” people imply that it causes uncontrolled drowsiness and similar symptoms. Yes, CBN can significantly improve sleep quality. But that doesn’t mean it goes so far as to have a sedative effect on people who consume it.
To date, no study has been able to confirm or refute the idea that CBN acts as a sedative. In general, we always recommend starting with small doses to test how your body reacts and adjust the dosage over time. To run even the slightest risk of a sedative effect, you would have to consume astronomical amounts of CBN oil. Therefore, normal consumption poses absolutely no risk.
