CBD, also known as cannabidiol, occurs naturally in hemp flowers. Studies have shown that it offers numerous benefits for our bodies and our health. We’re already familiar with CBD in the form of sublingual oil, flowers, herbal teas, and even cosmetics. So why not incorporate it into our cooking?
Here’s our recipe for CBD-infused cooking oil, so you can enjoy all the benefits of hemp right on your plate.
Why Use CBD Oil in Cooking
Vegetable oil is one of the foods that are very healthy for our bodies and essential for ensuring they function properly. By consuming vegetable oil, you ensure an adequate intake of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which our bodies cannot produce on their own.
It is therefore essential to consume healthy fats regularly. To simplify your routine, buying CBD in the formof ready-to-use oil allows you to boost your nutritional intake while enjoying the plant’s benefits. You can also customize your own recipes by adding a few drops for the perfect daily balance.
CBD affects our bodies in several ways and can, for example:
- Reduce Stress and Anxiety
- Reduce inflammation
- Help with digestion
- Relieve pain
There are many reasons to make your CBD-infused oil your new wellness staple.
How do you make your own CBD oil for cooking?
CBD oil, as its name suggests, is vegetable oil infused with CBD flowers or trim. It’s in the flowers that you’ll find the majority of the cannabinoids present in hemp, resulting in an oil with a stronger flavor. If you prefer a milder flavor, trimmings are the perfect alternative. It’s important not to confuse this with CBD oil, which is derived directly from hemp.
This oil will then reveal all its benefits in your cooking, in your salads, on your pizzas, and in every dish that comes out of your kitchen.
List of Ingredients and Utensils
- 25 grams of CBD trim or flowers (whichever you prefer)
- 50 cl of oil
- 1 sieve
- 1 saucepan
- 1 large bowl / salad bowl
- 1 funnel
- 1 bottle of oil with a cap
Recipe for CBD-Infused Cooking Oil
Step 1: Decarboxylate Your CBD Flowers
First and foremost, you need to decarboxylate your CBD. This step will activate all the cannabinoids naturally present in the plant. In fact, heating the CBD flower is what activates the cannabinoids. Without decarboxylation, your oil will not absorb any of these compounds.
For this step, roughly chop your CBD flowers before placing them on your baking sheet. If needed, have some parchment paper and a grinder on hand.
Bake for 40 minutes at 110 degrees, stirring occasionally.
Step 2: Steeping
To infuse your CBD oil, start by mixing the vegetable oil of your choice (olive, coconut, hemp, etc.) with your CBD flowers in a saucepan.
Heat the mixture over low heat for about 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Be especially careful not to let the oil boil, and lower the heat as soon as you see bubbles forming.
Once the cooking time is up, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool completely.
Step 3: Filtering Your Oil
Once your oil has cooled, strain it through a sieve, pouring it gently into your bowl or mixing bowl. This will filter out any flower bits from your oil. If you notice that some bits have slipped through the sieve, don’t panic! Simply let your CBD-infused oil sit for several hours, until the sediment containing the bits settles. Then continue with the recipe, being careful not to transfer the sediment into the bottle of CBD-infused oil.
Step 4: Bottling Your CBD Cooking Oil
Finally, all you have to do is fill your bottle with oil. To do this, use a funnel, place it inside your bottle, and gently pour in your CBD-infused oil. Close the bottle and let it settle before enjoying!
It's important to choose a bottle with a tight-fitting lid to prevent your CBD-infused oil from going rancid.
Cooking with CBD-Infused Oil
CBD oil therefore offers the benefits of your vegetable oil, combined with those associated with CBD. To ensure you get the full nutritional benefits, be sure never to boil your oil. The cannabinoids responsible for CBD’s benefits are broken down by excessively high temperatures. So avoid cooking with it; instead, add it to hot dishes after they’ve been cooked, or use it in the oven (at no more than 160 degrees).
You can enjoy your CBD-infused oil to dress your salads, top your pizzas, enhance your pasta dishes, or simply add a unique twist to your meals and baked goods. In fact, if you often bake cakes and pastries, you might be interested in our recipe for CBD butter.
The only precaution to take: Keep your CBD-infused oil out of the reach of children. Minors are prohibited from consuming CBD.
