New Trends in CBD Foods

New Trends in CBD Foods

Since 2018, cannabidiol has been everywhere: in e-liquids for e-cigarettes, in dietary supplements in capsule form, in cosmetics, and even in CBD shops that are popping up all over France.

All kinds of CBD-based foods are even starting to appear on the shelves of specialty grocery stores: candies, teas, chocolates, and so on.

Are these CBD-infused foods effective, or are they just a fad?

What are the benefits of consuming CBD-based foods?

Derived from hemp, CBD (cannabidiol) is an active ingredient with numerous benefits. It acts on the body’s endocannabinoid system, which regulates many physiological processes, including the control of emotions, appetite, inflammation, and immune cell activity, among others.

CBD dietary supplements are also recognized for their effectiveness on the immune and nervous systems. That’s actually where the idea of taking CBD came from. Be careful, however, not to confuse hemp oil with CBD oil.

Oil derived from pressed hemp seeds does not have the same properties as CBD oil obtained by distilling parts of the plant (leaves, stems, flowers). While hemp oil is classified as a superfood—particularly for its antioxidants and omega-3 and 6 fatty acids—CBD oil has recognized therapeutic properties.

Dietary supplements labeled “made with hemp oil” will therefore not have the same effects as CBD-based products. The two oils are both different and complementary, and they can be found in the same product.

Eating CBD-infused foods would therefore allow us to enjoy all the benefits of cannabidiol for our bodies.

CBD-Infused Foods: Just a Trend?

Available in all kinds of forms—from the most original to the most fun—are CBD-infused foods just a fad, or are they actually effective?

It has been scientifically proven that whether it is inhaled, ingested, or applied to the skin, CBD retains its properties, and users can enjoy its benefits—particularly in relieving stress, pain, inflammation, insomnia, and more.

However, depending on the method of administration, its effects will be more or less immediate and intense.

For a quick effect, inhalation or sublingual application is recommended for nearly immediate results. On the other hand, when incorporated into food, CBD takes longer to be absorbed by the body, and the amount that reaches the brain will be lower. Despite this longer onset of action, purchasing CBD for culinary use remains a popular option for those seeking a slow and sustained release of active ingredients during digestion.

Is it safe to eat CBD-infused foods?

All these new CBD treats are tempting and can be enjoyed without fear of side effects or other unwanted effects.

Be sure to pay close attention to the quality of the products, their origin, their CBD content, and user reviews.

As with sublingual oils or e-liquids for e-cigarettes, always test the product by starting with small amounts—for example, 0.2 mg of CBD per kilogram of body weight.

Wait 45 minutes to see what happens, and repeat the test the next day if nothing happens. Always proceed step by step, listening to your body.
