Every January brings a treat we all love: the galette des rois.

This cake has enjoyed almost unwavering popularity since Roman times and seems more deeply rooted in our traditions than ever before.

This year, we’re sharing a recipe that’s anything but ordinary: a CBD-infused galette des rois.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is an active compound found naturally in the hemp plant, also known as “cannabis light.” It offers numerous benefits for our well-being. To enhance this traditional pastry with unique botanical notes, purchasing high-qualityCBD is essential to ensure a taste and relaxation experience worthy of the occasion.

The Origin of the Galette des Rois

Contrary to popular belief, the tradition of the galette des rois does not have religious origins. In fact, the galette des rois dates back to Roman times, when it was eaten to celebrate the winter solstice. During the festivals dedicated to the god Saturn, slices of the galette des rois were distributed at random, shared equally among masters and slaves. Whoever found the bean became king for the day and could have all their wishes granted throughout that day. Tradition dictated that the youngest person in the group would crawl under the table and, one by one, designate the people to whom a slice of the cake should be given.

Throughout the ages, the tradition of the galette des rois has endured, making its way from medieval feasts to the tables of Louis XIV. It was only during the French Revolution that the custom faced a difficult period, due to its name, which ran counter to revolutionary ideals.

However, shortly thereafter, it made a comeback on dining tables, and the tradition resumed, much to the delight of food lovers.

Traditionally, the galette des rois was eaten on Epiphany, January 6. But since the 1960s, the Vatican has changed the date so that the cake is shared on the first Sunday of the month. Today, you can enjoy this delicious almond-flavored treat throughout the month of January.

This year, High Society brings you a slightly unconventional and relaxing recipe for galette des rois: the CBD galette des rois.
