The latest cannabinoid to hit the French market, HHC is a molecule shrouded in mystery. Although almost nothing is known about it, its resemblance to THC is as intriguing as it is alluring.
Here's everything you need to know about HHC and its benefits.
What is HHC?
HHC, whose scientific name is hexahydrocannabinol, is a molecule found in very small amounts in the hemp plant. It is a cannabinoid, just like CBD,CBN, and THC.
HHC, as we know it today, was synthesized in a laboratory by an American chemist named Roger Adams in 1944.
This rather unusual synthetic compound was thus produced by hydrogenating a THC molecule (delta-9-THC).
Despite its long history, HHC has been studied very little, if at all. It has been sidelined in favor of research on CBD or THC. As a result, we still know very little about this chemical compound.
How is HHC produced?
This rather unique molecule was obtained through the hydrogenation of a synthetic THC molecule. The molecular structure thus remains essentially the same: the molecular structure of HHC is based on the same framework as THC, with the exception of the two additional carbon atoms…
However, this process can only be carried out in a laboratory and is dangerous because it involves a risk of explosion. It is therefore not possible to produce it at home. HHC is thus a synthetic molecule that, even though it has existed since the 1940s, remains relatively unknown and, above all, poorly studied.
What are the benefits of HHC?
While hexahydrocannabinol resembles THC in structure, it also resembles it in its effects. According to some studies, HHC is considered to be half as potent as THC but can produce psychotropic effects at high doses.
Other studies have shown that HHC may be equivalent to morphine and 1,000 times more potent than THC.
That just goes to show how little we know about this cannabinoid!
HHC is a mixture of two HCR-type molecules: 9R-HHC, which is capable of interacting with our endocannabinoid receptors, and 9S-HHC, which has little effect on our endocannabinoid system.
Among its reported benefits are stress relief, appetite stimulation, a boost to metabolism, and a calming effect on the mind.
As you can see, HHC is a potent product that could be useful, for example, for gradually weaning yourself off cannabis. However, it is not recommended if you are a CBD user, as it is much more potent.
How should HHC be consumed?
HHC is primarily used for vaping, in the form of e-liquid. It can also be found in other forms, such as oils, but these are less common.
When you inhale HHC directly into your lungs, the effects will be felt even more quickly.
The limited number of studies conducted on this new cannabinoid do not allow us to determine the effects and consequences of its use on our bodies.
Is HHC legal?
HHC is already available over the counter in the United States, and HHC e-liquids are gradually making their way onto the French market.
Nevertheless, we must remain vigilant. Since HHC is still unknown—or at least very little known—to the authorities, it has not yet been deemed illegal. However, given its effects, which are quite similar to those of THC, there is almost no doubt that this compound will be banned or, at the very least, heavily regulated.
For now, you can therefore consume HHC in France. However, you should be careful about where the products come from: since there are no regulations in place, sellers are under no obligation to comply with specific standards or concentration levels.
HHC is therefore a cannabinoid similar to THC, and its effects on the human body are still not well understood. This powerful molecule suggests potential benefits similar to those of morphine. Although it is sold in France, there is some uncertainty regarding whether HHC should be classified as a drug. It is therefore advisable to use it with caution.
